What IT is...Migration

As we go to press, I am writing to you from the campus of our friends at the University of Nebraska-Kearney. It is perhaps not ironic that this location, known to be prominently placed along the migration path of the Sandhill crane, is a place to discuss the selection of a new Student Information System.

Migration, in information technology terms, can be counted on just as dependably as the intuitive drive of these amazing birds. Technology constantly changes, older programming methods are abandoned as new improvements are developed. As the University is learning, it's almost impossible to stay in one place.

Information Services is just one group within the University system who is advising the institution on the selection of a new system. Collegiate, a consultant involved in selecting a vendor for the project, has set up a website to provide stakeholders with information on the process.
