WHAT is IS-ALERT?

IS-ALERT is an IS-wide communication tool to inform the campus of system outages, scheduled downtime, and other service interruptions. IS Alert uses listserv email notification to individuals and an RSS feed that is visible and is archived on the web.

WHEN do I use IS-ALERT?

Any outages or interruptions to service for the network, an enterprise application, or a system should be communicated through IS-ALERT.

HOW do I post a message to IS-ALERT?

By submitting a message using the IS Alert Tool. If you have authoring privileges, your message will post immediately, otherwise it will be approved by the listserv moderators.

What information should an IS-ALERT message contain?

An effective IS-ALERT notice has three things:
  1. Clarity—any layman should understand what is going on
  2. Brevity—it’s a notice, not a novel
  3. Complete—it states the facts about an event, as it is currently known and the expected outcome

Follow up messages when service is restored are encouraged.
