Information Services Networking

Network changes effective August 19, 2007
NOTE: These changes do not apply to UNL ResNet connections.
Effective July 1, 2007 the pricing for all data ports is $4.25 per month, regardless of connection speed. Based on this pricing change, on August 19, 2007 all network switch ports will be configured to auto negotiate where applicable. The Network Interface Card (NIC) and the network switch ports in each location will determine the maximum connection speed.
Network switch ports will vary depending on the location. In some locations most of the switch ports might be 10Mb only, while in another location 10/100/1000Mb switch ports are available. The goal is that over time, almost all switch ports on campus will be upgraded to 10/100/1000Mb. The majority of all switch ports on campus today are 10/100Mb. All 10Mb only switch ports will be replaced before July 2008.
Information Services suggests configuring NIC's for auto negotiation of speed and duplex. In almost all cases, this is the default so no changes on your part should be required.
To the right is a list of locations that have primarily 10Mb only switch ports available and the tentative upgrade schedule. Any location not listed on the right should be assumed to have 10/100Mb or 10/100/1000Mb to the desktop. To see what type of network switch ports are standard in each location check the links below
